Empowering Communities | Katchoua Foundation’s Healthy Living & Menstrual Hygiene Day Initiative
Katchoua Foundation recently conducted a transformative community intervention titled “Healthy Living & Katchoua Foundation Menstrual Hygiene Day” in Mabeta Njanga, Limbe, Cameroon. From February 7th to 14th, 2024, the foundation embarked on a comprehensive initiative aimed at promoting healthy living practices and raising awareness about menstrual
hygiene among women and girls in the community. Key messages delivered during the event.
Importance of Healthy Living:
The initiative emphasized the significance of adopting healthy lifestyle habits, including nutrition, exercise, and mental well-being, for overall health and well-being. Through interactive workshops and educational sessions, participants learned about the positive impact of healthy living on their physical and mental health.
Menstrual Hygiene Awareness:
A crucial aspect of the KFMHD initiative was to raise awareness about menstrual hygiene practices. Participants were educated on the importance of maintaining proper menstrual hygiene to prevent infections, promote dignity, and boost confidence among women and girls. Breaking taboos and stigma surrounding menstruation was also addressed to normalize discussions about menstrual health.
Educational Sessions:
The foundation organized engaging workshops in Government schools to provide practical information on menstrual hygiene management. Participants learned about proper product usage, and hygiene practices, and received comprehensive menstrual health education to empower them to manage their menstrual health confidently.
Access to Sanitary Products:
Recognizing the challenges faced by less privileged women in accessing affordable and hygienic menstrual products, the foundation discussed strategies to ensure access and affordability for all women. Free donations of sanitary pads were distributed to less privileged women and schoolgirls to address menstrual poverty in the community.
Empowering Women:
The initiative focused on empowering women and girls by providing them with knowledge, resources, and support to manage their menstrual health independently. By equipping them with essential information and resources, women and girls were empowered to make informed decisions about their health.
Community Engagement:
Community members were encouraged to actively participate in the event, share their experiences, and contribute to the discussion on promoting healthy living and menstrual hygiene awareness. The initiative fostered community engagement and solidarity in addressing health-related challenges.
Sustainable Practices:
The foundation advocated for sustainable menstrual hygiene options, such as reusable pads to promote environ
mental conservation and reduce waste. By promoting sustainable practices, the initiative aimed to contribute to long-term environmental sustainability.
Supporting Less Privileged Women:
Highlighting the importance of supporting less privileged women, the foundation provided free sanitary pads. The initiative aimed to address menstrual poverty and ensure that all women have access to dignified menstrual hygiene products.
Call to Action:
Participants were inspired to take action in promoting menstrual hygiene awareness, advocating for women’s health rights, and supporting initiatives aimed at improving menstrual health education and access to sanitary products in the Mabeta Njanga community where 90% is inhabited by Nigerians. The initiative concluded with a call to action for continued collaboration and support in advancing women’s health initiatives.
