July 2021: Katchoua Foundation Menstrual Hygiene Day at God First Orphanage, Wotutu Limbe – Cameroon

July 17th, 2021 was the 7th edition of Katchoua Foundation Menstrual Hygiene Day (KFMHD) to “Understand Her Menstrual Needs.
Orphan girls in orphanages have attracted relatively little attention as a group in need of special measures to educate them against bad hygienic practices during Menstruation.

However, increasing success in lowering the level of poor hygienic practices and debunking myths and misconceptions of menstruation in many orphanages will result in orphans getting good menstrual health and hygiene as well as free sanitary pads donated by the Katchoua Foundation monthly. It will also help them acquire first-hand menstrual education which will help them later in life that hasn’t been the case in the past.
Thus, it can be anticipated that in the coming years, there will be an increase in good menstrual practices in Buea, Limbe, and Cameroon at large making the world a better place.

Management of menstruation matters can be challenging with orphans in orphanages. A lack of effective interventions by health personnel, community workers, and others to improve menstrual hygiene management (MHM) among females in such places. KFMHD interventions help in clearing myths and misconceptions surrounding menstruation and free delivery of sanitary pads will go a long way to “Understand her menstrual needs.”

Proper education about the female body’s biological processes is a necessary response. The goal of KFMHD interventions is to ensure that menstruating less privileged and underprivileged females in orphanages and streets are able to manage this healthy biological process in a sustainable, hygienic, and dignified manner. Access to appropriate menstrual material is very important.

We will keep spreading the good news of menstrual health, free donation of pads until there is change.
Katchoua Foundation Menstrual Hygiene Day (KFMHD) is open for free sanitary pads donation and Education on Menstrual Health and Hygiene.
