Katchoua Foundation Menstrual Hygiene Day (KFMHD) For the Month of July, 2023

Katchoua Foundation Menstrual Hygiene Day (KFMHD) For the Month of July, 2023

Katchoua Foundation Menstrual Hygiene Day (KFMHD) is a monthly event held by Katchoua Foundation to raise awareness about menstrual health and hygiene (MHH) and to provide menstrual hygiene products to women and girls in need. The event was held in July 2023, in Njitem village in Adamawa Region of Cameroon.

The theme for KFMHD 2023 is “Understand Her Menstrual Needs.” This theme was chosen to highlight the importance of understanding the specific needs of women and girls when it comes to MHH. These needs can vary depending on several factors, including age, culture, and socioeconomic status.

The Challenges
Menstrual health and hygiene are a critical issue for women and girls around the world. Millions of women and girls lack access to safe and affordable menstrual hygiene products, which can have a significant impact on their health, education, and well-being.

In Njitem village, the challenges facing women and girls with regards to MHH are even more pronounced. The village is a small, rural community where women and girls often face taboos, discriminatory social norms, poverty, and lack of access to essential services such as sanitary products.

Our Interventions
Katchoua Foundation’s interventions for July, 2023 focused on addressing these challenges by:

• Meeting the demand for menstrual hygiene products: We provided free sanitary pads to women and girls in Njitem village.
• Preserving dignity: We created a safe and supportive environment for discussing menstruation.
• Boosting confidence: We provided information and skills about menstruation to women and girls.
• Enhancing sexual and reproductive health: We provided information and services about contraception, safe sex, and other related topics.

The Impact
The impact of KFMHD was significant. We were able to reach over 100 women and girls in Njitem village with our interventions. We also received positive feedback from participants, who said that they learned a lot about MHH and felt more confident about managing their menstrual cycle.

We were able to raise awareness about MHH and provide menstrual hygiene products to women and girls in need. We are committed to continuing our work to improve MHH for women and girls around the world.
